Minimum Resize Bounds

Objects can have a smallest valid size.

Best experienced with a pointer.

The problem

Unclamped resize can collapse frames to zero, hiding content and making handles unusable.

The solution

Minimum width and height clamps stop resize at usable limits.

Experiment

Play with the values

64px
48px

How it works

  • A resize drag proposes a new width and height from the pointer.
  • Those values are compared with the object's minimum bounds.
  • Anything smaller than the minimum is clamped.
  • Further movement past the limit does not shrink the object.
  • Growth above the minimum stays free.

Seen in

Text boxes

Frames refuse to shrink below a readable text container size.

Window chrome

Resizable panels stop at a minimum that keeps controls visible.

Image placeholders

Media frames clamp so thumbnails never become unclickable slivers.

Component instances

Design components enforce min width/height from their specs.
