Remote Selection

Show not just where they are, but what they're on.

The problem

Even with cursors, you can't tell what text a collaborator is selecting or editing.

The solution

Peer selections render as coloured ranges labelled with their name.

Experiment

How it works

  • The local selection range is tracked as the user highlights text or objects.
  • That range is broadcast, not a screenshot of the highlight.
  • Peer ranges arrive and are stored separately from the local selection.
  • Each range is painted in that person's color so overlaps stay readable.
  • A name label ties the highlight to who made it.
